The purpose of this evaluation toolkit is to offer a package of evaluation materials that can be used to determine the effect that expanded HIV screening activities has on patient attitudes toward and accepting HIV testing. Health care organizations and providers can use the results from the evaluation process to identify areas for service improvement.

This analysis examines state Medicaid coverage of routine HIV screening and finds that currently, about half of states cover routine screening under their Medicaid programs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends routine HIV screening for all patients between the ages of 13 and 64, but routine screening is currently an optional Medicaid benefit, which states may choose to cover. The analysis includes a breakdown of which states cover routine screening and which states only cover medically necessary HIV screening.

The Kaiser Permanente HIV Challenge aims to help health care providers nationwide improve health equity for people living with HIV by increasing access to HIV care and improving health outcomes. Kaiser Permanente challenges other private health care providers and community health clinics to increase the number of HIV-infected people getting treatment by sharing Kaiser Permanente’s toolkit of clinical best practices, tools, mentoring, training and health IT expertise.

This meeting takes place on the second Friday of each month for 1 hour starting at 12pm PT, 1pm MT, 2pm CT and 3pm ET. The mission of Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is to develop the capacity to safely and effectively treat chronic, common, and complex diseases in rural and underserved areas, and to monitor outcomes of this treatment. The HIV/AIDS TeleECHO Clinic unites a multidisciplinary team of experts in HIV/AIDS care at a central conferencing site with healthcare clinicians treating HIV/AIDS patients. Tom Donohoe, U.S.-Mexico Border Project Coordinator with the Pacific AETC will be the presenter for this event. Learning objectives include: Discussing the HIV epidemic along the U.S.-Mexico border; reviewing health care delivery systems in Mexico, including those for HIV services; facilitate continuity of care for HIV-infected patients returning to Mexico; and utilize 7 one-page bilingual fact sheets for Mexico and 6 Central American Countries.

This event is part of a series of webinars that focus on cultural competency and HIV in marginalized/vulnerable populations. Some of the learning objectives include: describe the history of the patient-provider relationship in the United States; define health communication as it relates to the patient-provider interaction; state measures and better understand knowledge, attitudes and beliefs among health care providers toward patients with HIV; identify barriers to successful patient-provider communication and understand their impact on decision-making; state the importance of linguistically appropriate and culturally competent care for patients living with HIV and those at-risk for HIV; identify interventions for health care providers to better communicate with HIV patients.
